Introduction
Project Location
Located in Yichang City, Hubei Province, the project is the reconstruction and upgrading project of Yichang Riverside Park, which is a very important urban public leisure space for Yichang citizens, and it’s urgent to improve the functional facilities and implant new business formats.
Original landscape
Due to the construction period of more than 40 years, Yichang Riverside Park has gradually exposed various problems: the construction style is inconsistent and fragmented, a number of industrial relics have destroyed the continuity of the green corridor along the river, and the overgrown vegetation has obstructed the sight field between the city and the river view, rendering the river, mountain, and scenery obscured from the city, and failing to utilize the advantages of Yichang landscape.
Design Strategies
While practicing the concept of park city, the design team always thought about how to restore the Yangtze River ecology. With "hyperlink" as the design concept, it focused on opening the whole riverside, connecting the internal and external traffic of the area with greenways, commuter roads and river-watching trails, adding rest areas and river-viewing seats along the river to create a friendly and comfortable riverside space. It also removed the middle layer arbors that do not grow well to open the sight field and show the public the most beautiful river view.
To fully activate site functions, the design team used the method of scene construction to create diversified formats from the perspective of operation, including the types of waterfront service spaces such as cultural venues, children area, independent buildings and street sports facilities. At the same time, the design team integrated the gantry crane with the memory of the site and the old warehouse into the landscape design, which revitalizes the park with the trendy industrial style and retains the memory of the city.
After this transformation, Yichang Riverside Park has become a distinctive landscape space that harmoniously blends with nature while exuding vitality, interactivity, and amusement, providing the citizens with an enhanced experience.
