Design of Villa Space

Project
Introduction

Located in Jingdezhen (often called China's Porcelain Capital for its important role in the domestic and international ceramic industries), this high-end villa has its decor incorporated with Chinese charm and porcelain culture, and reinterprets traditional Chinese style via modern design, thereby turning itself into a refreshing carrier of traditional Chinese culture in the new era.
Laid out in a Chinese courtyard style, this architecture is further paved with gray bricks and roofed with black tiles, effortlessly casting the aura of a classical Chinese garden over the whole space. This design approach forms an aesthetic connection between this villa and the picturesque landscape of Jingdezhen, while greeting the occupants with different views as they meanders through the whole architecture. As for its interior structure, the split-level spacial design creates a view spanning from the ground floor all the way to the ceiling. That visually raises the height of the house, and highlights a sense of interconnection between different floors, making the interior space look roomier. As this project is dedicated to senior art appraisers, its functional zoning has been tailored to match their aesthetic preferences, career-related needs and hobbies, with an exhibition hall, a collection room, a study and many other functional areas delineated for diverse purposes. Moreover, various objects closely associated with traditional Chinese culture are used to spice up the interior decor, ranging from porcelains, painting and calligraphy works, to mahogany furniture. That, complemented by the ample but soft lighting effects emitted from many hidden light strips, subtly steeps the space in the beauty of porcelain — "as pure as jade, as bright as a mirror, as sheer as paper, and with sound as dulcet as tapping on a stone chime".
The public space of this project is imbued with traditional Chinese charm, whereas the bedroom design is all about modern minimalist and neo-Chinese style. By abandoning over-decoration, it prevents the occupants from being overwhelmed by excessive visual tension, and offers them a simple, calm and tranquil private space for better relaxation both physically and mentally.
